I'm training for my big climb up El Capitan in Yosemite this summer.
My desire to do this came some 30 years ago when I was with the first group of skydivers to safely jump from El Capitan. Leaping off the edge, falling for ten seconds, flying for almost two minutes under parachute and landing in the soft meadows below. Realizing I better live my dream sooner then later, I began learning how to climb two years ago. Now my focus is mainly on aid climbing, which is how the big wall climbing is done. Where we'll be climbing and sleeping on the sheer vertical rock for around four days.
I've been fortunate this past year to have been so busy with work, and when I'm not working, escaping to the mountains to train for the big climb. Climbing in Yosemite, Joshua Tree and Idyllwild, has been an awe inspiring experience. Where I've trained with some of the worlds greatest climbers.
This past year, I've photographed numerous projects for my commercial clients, from very technical product images, to wonderful location scenes with seniors living a great life. A lot of executive portraits, mixed in with architecture. I've recently completed photography for Harley-Davidson's 2011 calendar, of motorcycles on location, a project I've been doing annually for seven years.
My background with Harley-Davidson started in the 90's, photographing for their calendar with bikes and beautiful models.
I've also developed a photographic product. A device for photographers that protects the camera connection when shooting tethered from a digital camera to the computer. It's made it through the testing stage, and photographers are now starting to buy the device. Although it's a limited market, I'm excited to see my invention in use. You can see it at http://www.DIGITALalaCART.com
I'm looking forward to 2011 and beyond and reaching my 3,000 foot goal of climbing, El Capitan this year!
